“Crown”

My work embraces the essence of black hair. This photographic series "Crown" explores the idea of hair identity and texture. Each of the three photos features women of color whose hair ranges from an afro, a short style, to locs. I feel that it is important to include myself in this series because of my own experience with my hair. Historically, the perception of black hair has been met with negativity through views from mainstream media; which has contributed to deep-rooted issues within the black community. "Crown" combats issues like these by exhibiting subjects with coily, curly, and locked hair.
